BWRFC in the Community
On Saturday December 11th, a handful of Brooklyn ruggers had a blast at Girls on the Run Manhattan's bi-annual 5K run! Along with myself (Vice President Leslie Von Pless), members Melanie Kaloust (Treasurer) and Danielle Dubeau ran as running buddies and President Talia Fromm volunteered as a Race Marshall. Our collective running buddy's name was Janivia, a 9 year old (almost 10) from the Bronx, who wants to play soccer, basketball and be a singer like Beyonce (who doesn't?). She was a sprinter! And we spent half the run trying to keep up with her! We also ran with our friends Michelle and Mary, whom are both wonderful supporters of BWR.
There was an awesome showing of both girls and running buddies, a good 250 people there total. It was sunny, not too cold, and as Minky pointed out: it was one giant bubble of pink happiness and excitement. So, we ran, we tried to convince Janivia that she wanted to grow up to be just like us, we recruited, and we represented BWR in awesome spandex style - all in all, a great morning! We'll be on the lookout for more events like this in the future, so stay tuned!
